It has been a while since I made any new free-standing stained glass panels and all the beautiful magnolia flowers I have seen recently inspired me to create this magnificent magnolia design.

To mirror the gentle pinks of the magnolia flower, I selected a pale pink glass with a range of subtle tones. I paired this with a warm green glass for the leaves. This also had swirls of white, creating a more naturalistic leaf form. For added interest, I used an iridescent white glass for some of the petals, which shimmers and changes colour as you move past it.

The whole design is mounted on a clear but textured glass. Each stained glass piece has been carefully hand-cut, wrapped with copper foil, soldered and blacked. Several pieces have been set forward, giving a 3D effect and adding to the realism of the piece.

It is mounted in a simple black stand, ready to place on display in your home.

I was pleased with how this piece turned out. I think it captures the natural beauty of these lovely magnolia flowers all year round, which are sadly all too fleeting each spring.
