Alongside her own artworks she is also showing works by other artists that have an animal or nature theme. As soon as she saw my Quirky Birds and Owls, she was excited to offer me a shelf on which to display them in the gallery.
Although, as you know, I sell a lot of my stained glass work through my online shop, the online space is very crowded so I think it is great to have the additional presence in a physical retail space, where people can see and handle the glass and get to know all the different personalities of the bird sculptures before they buy.
Wickham is a vibrant village with a lot of historic buildings built around a market square, easily accessible from the A32. The Warwick Lane shopping arcade on the square has a range of interesting, independent shops and several antique shops, with stock that is always changing. Upstairs there is a friendly cafe where you can sit and relax while you decide on your purchases.
As Christmas approaches, please think about buying your gifts from small businesses – not only do you get a present that is truly unique, but you also help creative individuals continue their quest to offer something different to the big brands that dominate the High Street and online space.
If you haven’t had a look at my online shop for a while, it is worth another visit as there are several new lines listed – including bird and owl sculptures, pretty and fun framed pictures and sophisticated fish and boat wall art. More new pieces are under construction and will be added in the coming weeks. And the beauty of a small business is that you can make specific requests to have something made in a particular colour or in a size to suit your needs.
For those who live in Surrey, there will be opportunities to see a selection of my latest work and Christmas decorations in Horsell, near Woking, at a wine and cheese evening on 29th October and a coffee morning on 30th October – with 20% of sales going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
